Welcome to the Bible Storying Network. Thank you for joining me in an effort to make God’s Word accessible, understandable, memorable, and reproducible for all.
As a Bible storyer you join hundreds of others who have discovered over the past two decades the joy of learning the stories of God’s Word orally and being prepared to share and teach the stories to those who need the orally-prepared spoken Word to understand and remember. Then for those who hear the Bible stories to be able to retell the same stories to others among their own people.
For this Bible storyer it has been a personal journey of discovery and learning as the very ones I went to teach had to first teach me how best to teach them. It is indeed an interesting oral road for a literate to walk. For most of us among Bible storyers we are still learning and improving the many options and strategies using the told stories and learning/teaching dialogs to evangelize, plant churches, disciple new believers, and train emerging oral leaders.
Bible Storying has introduced myself and others to the reality of Orality—that a large percentage of the world’s population are oral learners—needing or preferring to hear in order to learn and understand. And for many of the nonliterate in today’s world it is the only immediate option in this generation, and for others, many generations yet to come.
There are many websites that contribute to a sharing of the Bible Storying methodology. The methodology is called by different names such as Biblical Storytelling, Bibletelling, or Chronological Bible Storying. What links all these names is the focus on telling God’s stories as stories that can speak to the heart or oral learners. Many words have been spoken and written regarding Bible Storying, and many more will yet be spoken until at last all have heard the God News of salvation.
A de facto Bible Storying Network exists through the many contacts established over the years through requests for consultation regarding methodology and strategy of use, and through the former Bible Storying Newsletter subscriptions. These contacts provide a network of experienced Bible storyers that represent differing methodologies and a variety of people groups and worldviews as well as factors like gender, occupation, and age of listeners. A network is a venue for sharing of experiences, new developments and resources for a variety of ministry needs. Networking has provided an open channel for sharing across denominational and ministry agencies lines. I am indebted to the many who share so freely and can be counted on to provide solutions and answers. The Bible Storying network connects with many organizational networks among their own personnel.
