J. O. Terry is a former Southern Baptist missionary retired from serving as a media consultant after 33 years in the Asia-Pacific Region and an additional two years as Bible Storying consultant with oral Bible projects among indigenous peoples in Central America.
Terry began involvement with what is now Bible Storying in early 1988 and pioneered in the development of the present Bible Storying methodology. He told Bible stories in outreach and radio program follow-up ministries, and taught Bible stories to oral learners to evangelize and plant churches. Many of the listeners lacked not only literacy to read the Bible, but also access to a Bible in their spoken language.
Today Terry continues to provide consultation, resources, networking and training for new Bible storyers, and has continued to prepare Bible Storying models for various ministry needs, and write numerous books on Bible Storying methodology. Terry recently ended publication of the Bible Storying Newsletter that was initially started in 1994. He currently publishes the Journal of Bible Storying. (See current issue in Journal heading.)
The Bible Storying Network has evolved from my own long term relationship to the development of Bible Storying dating back to 1988. I do not take credit for the Network's role and accomplishment. Instead I give thanks to God for the privilege of having some small role in its evolution and for the many colleague Bible storyers who have so freely shared from their experiences and expertise.
